Japan is first donor to WTO Fisheries Funding Mechanism

The government of Japan is contributing just under JPY 90 million (approximately CHF 763,000) to the WTO Fisheries Funding Mechanism to help developing and least-developed countries implement the landmark Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies adopted at the 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) in June 2022. This is the first donation deposited to the Fund. Ambassador Kazuyuki Yamazaki of Japan presented the contribution at an 8 February 2023 meeting in Geneva with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
