WTO members praise value of capturing lessons learned from COVID-19 pandemic

At a meeting of the Committee on Market Access on 26-27 April, WTO members adopted a document reflecting lessons learned from trade in COVID-19 related goods and indicating practices members might want to consider in the event of future emergencies. Members were updated on the notification of quantitative restrictions (QRs) and addressed a high number of trade concerns.

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to harness trade, continental integration and the multilateral trading system to achieve sustainable economic growth amid challenging global economic conditions. In her remarks at the third joint ministerial meeting of ECOWAS ministers of trade and industry in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on 27 April, Dr Okonjo-Iweala emphasized the importance of delivering for people, as outlined in the 1975 Lagos Treaty and the founding agreement of the WTO.
