At the White House Tribal Nations Summit, USDA Announces Continued Commitment to Indian Country

WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2022 – One year after the reinstatement of the White House Tribal Nations Summit, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is sharing its actions to better serve tribal governments, citizens, and organizations and honor our nation’s trust and treaty responsibility. The Biden-Harris Administration and USDA are taking steps to empower tribal self-determination, promote equity and remove barriers to services and programs, and incorporate Indigenous perspectives.

Parliamentarians from Latin America and Caribbean discuss challenges facing world trade, MC12 outcomes

More than 35 parliamentarians from Latin America and the Caribbean attended a joint Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)-WTO workshop in Buenos Aires on 28 and 29 November to discuss the challenges facing the multilateral trading system and the legislative work required to implement the outcomes of the WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) held in June 2022. The event took place at the National Congress of Argentina.

First course on Essentials for SPS Committee Participation concludes

A two-week virtual course on Essentials for SPS Committee Participation took place for the first time from 15 to 24 November 2022, with the participation of government officials from developing and least-developed African countries. Participants said they acquired an advanced level of understanding of the WTO’s Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures and were ready to undertake individual actions to improve the participation of their countries in the SPS Committee.

USDA Proposes Science Driven Updates to Foods Provided Through WIC | What They’re Saying

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29, 2022This month, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service is proposing changes to the foods prescribed to participants in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, known as WIC. These science-based revisions incorporate recommendations from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025.
