The heads of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank Group, World Health Organization and World Trade Organization launched a new website on 30 July which will serve as a platform for information on access to COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics and on the activities of the organizations in tackling the pandemic.

Members engage with Timor-Leste in its ongoing bid to join the WTO

WTO members examined Timor-Leste’s trade regime and noted the progress in its market access negotiations at the 29 July meeting of the Working Party on the Accession of Timor-Leste under the chairmanship of Ambassador Rui Macieira of Portugal. Timor-Leste, a least-developed country (LDC), expressed its determination to complete the WTO accession process by the end of 2022 despite the COVID-19 crisis.

Lao PDR on course to join information technology agreements

The Lao People’s Democratic Republic is set to become the first least developed country to accede to both the WTO’s Information Technology Agreement (ITA) and ITA Expansion. At successive meetings of the Committee of Participants on the Expansion of Trade in Information Technology Products and the ITA Expansion Group on 30 July, Participants welcomed Lao PDR’s decision to join the two agreements and reviewed Lao PDR’s proposed respective schedules for eliminating tariffs on the covered products.

– A screening/intake process adequately identifies participants who require a referral for nutrition counseling.
– A registered dietitian evaluates the participants’ nutritional needs and develops an appropriate care plan.

– Evaluative methods are in place to determine the outcome of nutrition counseling intervention.

The WTO issued today (30 July) the latest edition of its annual publication on international trade statistics, the “World Trade Statistical Review”.

Members agree on 2021 chairs for subsidiary bodies of Goods Council

The WTO General Council, on 28 July, noted consensus on a slate of names of chairpersons for the 14 subsidiary bodies that report to the Council for Trade in Goods. Ambassador Dacio Castillo (Honduras), General Council chair, said he will hold consultations with members on how to improve the overall process for the appointment of officers of all WTO bodies.
